Snook just love spots where deep water meets up with shallows. It is the absolute best of both worlds for this gamefish, which enjoys the safety and comfort of deep water and the ease of hunting baitfish and crustaceans that may happen onto the sand bars, where their dark profiles give them away every time. When the snook sees bait moving over the light bottom, it explodes into action. Anglers who position themselves to get baits to the edges where these bars meet channels, can be very well rewarded. Just as the snook can see the bait against the sand, so too the angler can see the snook. Being at the top of the food chain is great, isn't it?
The mouth of Sweetwater Creek, on the Tampa side of the causeway, is one of those perfect combinations of deep water meeting shallows. Take a look at these photos and you'll see the possibilities for yourself. The gang over at Denny B's Bait and Tackle have been hearing from customers who have been picking up some snook here over the past couple of weeks. It's not always the place to be but it's always a place to watch. Keep an eye on our fish tracker charts for blinking dots here.
